How the day unfolds

Morning

7:00 AM - Briefing

Meet your ranger team at the park headquarters. You will be assigned a gorilla family based on your fitness level.

1-4 Hours

The Forest Trek

Hike through dense rainforest. Rangers communicate with trackers ahead to locate the family. This is the adventure part!

60 Minutes

The Encounter

Spend exactly one hour with the gorillas. Watch them feed, play, and groom. Masks are worn to protect them.

Afternoon

The Certificate

Return to base to receive your official Uganda Wildlife Authority certificate, a badge of honor for your effort.

Essential Gear

The jungle environment is unpredictable. Being prepared ensures your focus stays on the wildlife, not on being wet or scratched.

Pro Tip:

Hire a local porter ($20) at the trailhead. They carry your bag and help you navigate the steep terrain.

Waterproof hiking boots (must be worn-in)
Gardening gloves (protection from thorns)
Long trousers & long-sleeved shirt
Lightweight rain jacket or poncho
Insect repellent (DEET based)
Thick socks (to tuck pants into)

It varies. Bwindi is mountainous and steep. Some families are close (30 mins), others require 4-5 hours of hiking. We request easier treks for seniors or those with lower fitness.
