How We Travel

Responsible
Tourism

Uganda's wilderness is irreplaceable. Our obligation is to ensure it exists for the next generation of travellers — and the communities that call it home.

Our Commitment

Green World Safaris was founded on the principle that travel should leave places better than it found them. Since 2010 we have operated exclusively in Uganda, building deep relationships with the parks, communities, and conservation bodies that protect this country's extraordinary wildlife.

We are fully licensed by the Uganda Tourism Board and are members of the Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO). Every itinerary we design is reviewed against our internal responsible-travel checklist before it is presented to a client.

Wildlife Encounter Guidelines

Our wildlife encounter rules are non-negotiable and apply to every guest on every trip.

  • Gorilla trekking groups are limited to 8 persons per habituated family, per UWA regulations.
  • Guests maintain a minimum 7-metre distance from gorillas and chimpanzees at all times.
  • Flash photography is strictly prohibited around all primates.
  • Maximum 1-hour visit with any gorilla family to minimise stress to the animals.
  • Guests exhibiting cold or flu symptoms will not be permitted to trek — great apes are highly susceptible to human respiratory illness.
  • No food or drink is consumed in the presence of primates.
  • Our guides are all UWA-certified and carry first-aid kits on every trek.

Community Partnerships

We believe the communities living alongside Uganda's national parks are its most important conservation asset. When local people benefit economically from wildlife tourism, they become its greatest protectors.

We are actively building formal partnerships with community groups near Bwindi, Kibale, and Queen Elizabeth National Park. Details of these partnerships will be published here as agreements are finalised.

Community partnership details coming soon — check back for updates.

Environmental Policy

We operate a strict no-single-use-plastics policy across all our camps and vehicles. Guests are provided reusable water bottles on arrival and refill stations are available at all our partner lodges.

Our vehicle fleet is maintained to current emission standards and we consolidate transport routes to reduce unnecessary mileage. When lodge proximity allows, we encourage guided walks in preference to vehicle transfers.

We do not operate or recommend any lodges that discharge untreated waste into waterways or protected areas.

Carbon Offset Initiatives

We acknowledge that long-haul international travel generates significant carbon emissions. We are currently evaluating formal carbon offset partnerships with Uganda-based reforestation programmes to give clients a credible local offset option.

In the interim, we donate a percentage of every booking to the Uganda Wildlife Authority's Community Conservation Programme, which funds ranger salaries and community education in buffer zones around Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth parks.
